Community Service Project
The Community Service Project is an outreach Christian service project for students in Grades 6-8 that involves you living and celebrating your faith. You are to commit to a service(s) of your choice. This will challenge you to respond to various needs in our community. Christian discipleship is a way of living in which you show love and compassion to those who are in need of physical or spiritual comfort. The Works of Mercy are concrete ways to meet the challenge of Jesus as stated in Matthew 25:40. “Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine you did it for me.” In serving your community 10 hours each trimester, you will bring “light” into the lives of others, and experience the joy enfolded in living out your Catholic faith.
Trimester Requirement:
- Identify needs in your community.
- Identify your strengths and gifts and how you can contribute to the needs in your community.
- Commit to 10 hours of service each Trimester. Middle School House service does not apply.
- Have the person supervising your service activity complete the Supervisor Form. Complete one form for each agency or individual supervising your service activity.
- Use the Project Preparation Form to record details about your service.
- Reflect, in an ongoing way, about the service you performed. This reflection must be written after each time of service.
- Write a 1-2 paragraph essay detailing your service activities (refer to the Project Preparation Form).
- Prepare a visual presentation (poster, scrapbook, journal, be creative!) which will be presented to the class.
